Join us on Saturday 3/13 for our monthly support group meeting.

Meeting Topic:
Healthcare

This meeting space is available for people who trace their descent from countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tibet as well as people of South Asian descent from other regions, including but not limited to the West Indies, Africa, Southeast Asia, Canada and the U.K.

The objective of the meeting is to provide a safe space for people where they can freely discuss and share aspects of their experiences as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning individuals.

Facilitators guide the meeting which provides the opportunity for open dialogue about issues important to the participants. Individuals decide on their own level of involvement.

It is the hope of SALGA that you feel welcome in this gathering and be able meet and make friends with people who can better understand, share and empathize with you.

Holi Potluck!

Sunday, February 28th

Holi is celebrated in many parts of South Asia and in the South Asian diaspora with color, music, dance and bonfires. It marks the beginning of spring and celebrates the end of cold and hardship and the successful harvest of the winter crop.

For Hindus all over the world, Holi also celebrates the victory of goodness overcoming tyranny and intolerance. This is symbolized in the story of Prahalad, a young boy who overcame religious intolerance imposed upon him by his father. Holi is now celebrated by people of all faiths, religions and walks of life. It is in this inclusive spirit of welcoming the spring and shedding the darkness of winter that SALGA would like to invite you to celebrate this colorful festival with us.

SALGA’s Holi Potluck is being hosted by a community member at a private residence. Please RSVP for the event and provide some information about how you can contribute to the potluck (so we can try to make sure there isn’t too much overlap). Once you RSVP, we’ll send you contact information and the address for the event.

SALGA is starting off 2010 with a big push for more volunteer involvement from the community! Our new Volunteer Coordinator would like to meet all potential volunteers, get to know you, find out more about your interests and speak with you about particular areas within SALGA that you may be interested in volunteering for.

In addition, you will have a chance to meet coordinators that represent core SALGA competencies such as Communications, Support, Political Outreach and Events. Each coordinator will give you specific information in his or her respective area of work.

This event will be a great way to learn more about SALGA and to network in a warm, comfortable and safe environment.

The Volunteer Meetup will be held at a private residence. Please RSVP today by confirming your attendance so we can plan for the appropriate number of people. Once we receive your RSVP, we’ll make sure to send you the meeting location.
