THE SENSE OF AN ENDING

but not a slight one. In it Julian Barnes
reveals crystalline truths that have taken
a lifetime to harden. He has honed their

Posted: January 10th, 2012 | Author: Jimmy | Filed under: Blog, Events, News | No Comments »

Lets bring a little desi culture to Brooklyn!!!

How do we celebrate: We will have a roaring fire in the backyard with great food, great friends, and great drinks! :-D (ooo and the movie veer zaara will be playing in the apt!)

Menu: Sarso ka saag (garlic spinach), Chole (chick peas), Veg biryani (veg rice), and naan (bread).

We will charge *5 dollars* at the door to raise money for future SALGA events. :-D

(it may be kind of chilly so dress warmly…)

What is Lodhi?
The festivial of Lohri is celebrated on the 13th of January which marks the earth being at its farthest point from the sun, and supposedly marking the end of the coldest month of the year (with global warning who knows anymore). Lohri also marks the onset of the harvest season, and is traditionally marked by throwing corn into a fire (to indicate an abundant crop). Lohri is celebrated in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of North India. A similar festival is celebrated in Tamil Nadu (Pongal) as well as in other parts of South India.

Date: Friday, January 13, 2012

Time: 7:30PM - 10:30PM

Location: 147 N 7th street, Brooklyn NY 11211

SALGA spaces are safe spaces for all, regardless of religion, gender, etc — all are welcome.

Basically just another reason to party!!! :-D

BRING ON THE FESTIVITIES!!!

Need New Threads?

Join us for an ALL GENDER shopping trip to Marshall’s and Daffy’s in the New Year!

Want to buy clothes, but feel anxious about shopping in the women’s section of the store? Want to buy your first suit, but afraid of what the clerks will say if you try one on? Want to play with your gender presentation, but aren’t sure how to get your hands on some fabulous clothes? This is the shopping trip for you!

We invite people of all genders to come and shop with us — there’s power in numbers! — and we also invite cis-gender allies to come support and talk fashion with us. Whether you’re TransGenderQueer*, just experimenting, or a friend, we’d love to see you!

When is this amazing trip, you ask? Good question!

Saturday, January 14th @ 1pm

We’ll meet at the Cosi (6th Ave at 23rd Street), and from there meander our way down to Marshall’s (6th Ave an 18th St) and Daffy’s (18th St at 5th Ave), before ending up at the LGBT Center in time for the SALGA support group at 4pm.

Please RSVP to Deen deen@salganyc.org so we know who to wait for. (He’ll also send you a contact number to call/text in case you want to meet up with us later.)

Join us for a fun January afternoon. We promise to stop for hot cocoa at least twice along the way. :)

*We use the term TransGenderQueer to be inclusive of all gender variant folks, no matter where you fall on the gender continuum, or how you identify.
