The South Asian Lesbian & Gay Association of New York City (SALGA) serves to promote awareness, tolerance, acceptance, empowerment and safe spaces for sexual minorities and people of all gender identities, who trace their heritage to South Asia or who identify as South Asian. Our mission is to enable community members to establish cultural visibility and take a stand against oppression and discrimination in all its forms.  We pledge to encourage leadership development, provide multi-generational support, work towards immigration advocacy, address health issues such as HIV / AIDS, and foster political involvement in the interest of creating a more tolerant society.

About Us

The South Asian Lesbian and Gay Association of New York City [SALGA-NYC] is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization, serving the South Asian LGBT & Questioning community for over 10 years.

We are a social, political and support group for lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender people who trace their descent from countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tibet as well as people of South Asian descent from countries such as Guyana, Trinidad and Kenya.

Our support group meets every second Saturday of the month from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Lesbian and Gay Community Center (208 W 13th Street, between 7th & 8th Aves., New York, NY). Our support group meetings are open to South Asians only. All are welcome to our social events.

The SALGA Hotline (1-657-777-2542) is now in operation every Thursday from 5pm-7pm.
The hotline is funded by a grant from the Stonewall Foundation, and supported by the Asian & Pacific Islander Coalition on HIV/AIDS, NYC (APICHA) & Trikone of San Francisco.
