Lets bring a little desi culture to Brooklyn!!!
How do we celebrate: We will have a roaring fire in the backyard with great food, great friends, and great drinks!
(ooo and the movie veer zaara will be playing in the apt!)
Menu: Sarso ka saag (garlic spinach), Chole (chick peas), Veg biryani (veg rice), and naan (bread).
We will charge *5 dollars* at the door to raise money for future SALGA events.
(it may be kind of chilly so dress warmly…)
What is Lodhi?
The festivial of Lohri is celebrated on the 13th of January which marks the earth being at its farthest point from the sun, and supposedly marking the end of the coldest month of the year (with global warning who knows anymore). Lohri also marks the onset of the harvest season, and is traditionally marked by throwing corn into a fire (to indicate an abundant crop). Lohri is celebrated in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of North India. A similar festival is celebrated in Tamil Nadu (Pongal) as well as in other parts of South India.
